Airport Road Brush Fire
09/01/18 – South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2164
At 4 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018, a second round of thunderstorms with frequent lightning rolled off the foothills into Douglas County. Motorists on U.S. Highway 85 spotted a small brush fire 2 miles west of the highway and south of Airport Road. First arriving Engine 40 spotted the fire, worked on recon to determine best access and upgraded the incident to a Large Brush Fire.

09/01/18 – South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2164
Just after 2 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018, South Metro Firefighters responded to a brush fire south of Ridgegate Parkway about a half-mile west of the Stepping Stone Community. Although flames and smoke were visible from Ridgegate Parkway, crews had to off-road into the open space to access the fire.

Fire Fighters Beer Fest

The Waterbury Fire Fighters have teamed up with the Fairfield Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation to host a beer fest to help the Moore Family. The Moore family was involved in a car accident and one of the triplets, Avery, suffered a spinal cord injury. Avery is on the road to recovery and has a long road ahead of him.

On August 28, 2018, on behalf of our very generous donors, we had the pleasure of presenting a $15,000. check for colon cancer research to the University of Rochester, N.Y.’s Wilmot Cancer Institute. We had the honor of meeting Hucky K. Land, Director of Research and Co – Director of Wilmot Cancer Institute and members of his research team.
Birmingham Local 117 Hosting Charity Golf Tournament

Colorado Firefighters Heart and Cancer Benefits Trust Grant The Firefighter Heart Fitness Grant (FHFG) West Metro Fire has received grant funding from The Firefighter Heart Fitness Grant (FHFG).  This grant provides funding to member fire departments for the purpose of providing heart health screening.

NLFD Fire Chief Kydd Set to Retire; Chief Thomas Curcio to Replace Him

Fire Chief Henry Kydd will be retiring on September 11th, 2018 after many illustrious years in the NLFD. Battalion Chief Thomas Curcio will be sworn in on September 12th to replace Chief Kydd. Thank you Chief Kydd for your service to New London and we hope the best for Chief Curcio.

The NLFD has sent 3 recruit firefighters to the CT Fire Academy in Windsor Locks. The class runs from August 27th until December 7th. Post graduation, they will be certified in Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, Hazmat Operations, Rescue Core and many other proficiencies.

On Tuesday afternoon August 21st, teamwork between Local 2164 and 2086 members resulted in the successful rescue of Luna, an 8-year-old Jack Russell Terrier. 24 hours earlier on Monday, Local 2086 members responded to assist with a dog possibly trapped under a deck.
